Ordinary clothes clips do not last long on our boat. They blow off, fall overboard, or eventually rust and leave streaks down the boat. FIXCLIP takes a different approach: a large all-plastic clip that closes around the rail and locks in place.
They work extremely well on our round boat rails. They grip both our thicker and thinner rails securely, stay attached when the wind is blowing hard, and have no exposed metal to rust. We like them enough that we plan to buy more.
They fit both sizes of round rail
Our boat has round rails in more than one diameter, and the FIXCLIP works on both. It closes securely around a thicker round rail as well as a thinner one, so we are not limited to using it in one specific location.
The fit is particularly useful aboard a boat because railings are often the best available place to hang wet clothes and towels. A clip that only works on a conventional clothesline is much less versatile.
The lock keeps laundry aboard
The clip locks closed instead of relying only on spring pressure. In strong wind, that means the clip remains attached to the rail and the clothing stays on the line rather than blowing away.
That security is the main reason we prefer these to ordinary clips. Standard clips can release, slide, or disappear overboard. We have gone through enough of them that their low purchase price stopped feeling like much of an advantage.
All plastic means no rust streaks
The FIXCLIP is plastic, with no exposed metal spring or closure to corrode. Conventional clips eventually rust in the marine environment, and that rust can run down the boat in visible streaks.
Aboard a boat, corrosion resistance is not cosmetic. Hardware that lives outside is continually exposed to rain, spray, humidity, and salt. Eliminating the metal also eliminates one common failure point and the cleanup that follows it.
Bigger and more expensive
These clips are larger than a standard clothespin or towel clip, and they cost considerably more. If you only need clips for a backyard clothesline in calm weather, the extra size and expense may be unnecessary.
For us, the higher price is justified by how many cheaper clips we have lost or discarded after they rusted. A clip that remains on the rail and lasts longer can be the better value even if it costs more initially.
Designed for round rails
We can recommend the FIXCLIP for round boat rails because that is where we have used it. Product reviews suggest it may not work properly on square rails, but we have not personally tested that configuration. If your railing is square, confirm the fit before buying.
The bottom line
FIXCLIP costs more and takes up more space than an ordinary clip, but it also does the job far better on our boat. It locks securely onto both our thick and thin round rails, holds laundry in strong wind, and cannot create rust streaks because it is all plastic.
We have lost and worn out enough conventional clips to appreciate one that stays aboard. We love these and plan to buy more.
