Who We Are
GoodKit is an independent field notebook for products and systems used in the real world. The site is run by experienced boat and RV owners who build, install, maintain, and repair much of their own equipment.
Everything reviewed here has been used by the writer. When something works better than expected, develops an annoying weakness, survives years of use, or fails outright, that experience becomes the review.
Our Experience
Our testing comes from long-term use aboard a cruising sailboat, in an RV, and around a home workshop and garage. That includes saltwater exposure, vibration, limited storage, constrained electrical systems, difficult installation access, and the ordinary wear that product listings rarely capture.
Our technical work includes marine and RV electrical systems, solar and lithium power, Victron equipment, Signal K, Home Assistant, Starlink, NMEA 2000, CAN-bus monitoring, Raspberry Pi projects, engine maintenance, plumbing, refrigeration, networking, and onboard automation.
Other contributors occasionally add reviews when they have meaningful firsthand experience. The same rule applies to everyone: no pretending to test equipment that was not actually used.
What We Cover
A narrow lane, tested hard:
- Marine electronics — Victron, Furuno, Raymarine, Signal K, NMEA 2000
- Connectivity — Starlink, cellular systems, marine networking
- Smart automation on 12V — Home Assistant, connected relays, BLE sensors and tank monitoring
- RV systems — many of the same electrical and mechanical problems on a different platform
- Practical gear — tools, galley equipment, storage, safety products and equipment expected to survive hard use
GoodKit focuses on products, systems, repairs and practical ownership—not destinations, family updates or general lifestyle coverage.
Our Review Policy
- We do not review products we have not used.
- We do not accept paid placements.
- We identify any vendor-supplied product if that changes in the future.
- We publish failures and limitations, including products we expected to like.
- Time in service and testing conditions are included whenever they matter.
