CleverMade Laundry Duffel Backpack Review: Great Capacity, Poor Durability

The 62-liter capacity and backpack ergonomics are good, but the handles and fabric cannot reliably support a realistic full load. Using it lightly defeats the reason to buy such a large bag.

CleverMade Laundry Duffel Backpack Review: Great Capacity, Poor Durability

The CleverMade Laundry Duffel Backpack LUXE gets two important things right: it holds a lot of laundry, and its backpack-style design makes a large load easier to carry. Unfortunately, the construction is not strong enough for the capacity.

When we filled it with real laundry and carried it any meaningful distance, the handles did not hold up and the fabric tore. A 62-liter laundry bag has to be built for the weight that 62 liters of laundry can create. This one is not.

The capacity is excellent

This is a genuinely large laundry bag. If you need to move a substantial load from a boat, RV, apartment, or dorm to a laundromat, the volume is useful. You can consolidate laundry instead of carrying several smaller bags.

The ergonomics are also good. The backpack format is a sensible way to move a bulky load, particularly when you need your hands free or have stairs, docks, or longer walks between you and the washing machine.

The construction cannot support the capacity

The problem appears when you use all that space. Loaded with a realistic amount of laundry and carried any distance, the bag's handles do not hold up. The fabric also tears. The build quality simply is not where it needs to be for a bag of this size.

That is more than a minor durability complaint. Capacity is the product's main advantage, but using that capacity exposes its main weakness. A large laundry carrier needs reinforced handles, strong attachment points, and fabric capable of supporting a full load repeatedly.

Fine for light loads misses the point

You could avoid overloading the CleverMade by putting less laundry in it. With a light load, it would probably be fine.

But then there is little reason to own such a large bag. If you only need to carry a small amount of laundry, a smaller bag will take up less storage space and place less stress on its handles. Buying a 62-liter carrier and deliberately leaving much of it empty is not a satisfying solution to inadequate construction.

The bottom line

The CleverMade Laundry Duffel Backpack LUXE has great capacity and good ergonomics. Those strengths make its poor durability even more disappointing. It is designed to hold a large load, but the handles and fabric do not reliably withstand carrying one.

A laundry bag should not require you to choose between using its advertised capacity and preserving the bag. Pass.
