Gear Aid Aquaseal UV turned several pinholes in ours into a repair that took only a few minutes, used a tiny amount of adhesive, and has remained leak-free through two weeklong salmon-fishing trips to Alaska. We turned the waders inside out, used a hose to locate the pinholes, applied a small dab of Aquaseal UV to each one, and left the repairs in the sun for a few minutes. That was the entire job. The waders were effectively as good as new. ## Finding the pinholes took more work than fixing them Small wader leaks can be frustrating because the place that feels wet while fishing does not necessarily reveal the exact puncture. Turning the waders inside out and using water from a hose made the individual pinholes visible, so we could mark the actual failure points instead of coating a large area and hoping for the best. Once we found them, each repair needed only a tiny amount of Aquaseal UV. The 0.25-ounce tube looks small, but pinholes require so little adhesive that one repair barely makes a dent in it. ## Sunlight makes the repair exceptionally fast Aquaseal UV stays workable until it is exposed to ultraviolet light. We applied it with the waders inside out and then put the repaired areas in direct sun. Within a few minutes, they were ready. That cure method is the product's defining advantage. There is no overnight wait and no need to plan the repair a day before fishing. Gear Aid says the current formula cures in roughly 30 seconds under UV light, although cloudy conditions or a thicker application can take longer. We simply gave ours a few minutes in sunlight. The sequence matters: apply it in shade, replace the cap, and then move the repair into sunlight. A quick cure would not mean much if the pinholes reopened the next time the fabric flexed. Since making the repair, we have taken the waders on two separate weeklong salmon-fishing trips to Alaska. They have not leaked. That is a much harder test than checking the repair in the yard. The waders have spent long days in use and standing in cold water, and the repaired areas have continued to seal. For the small punctures we had, Aquaseal UV was not merely a temporary emergency fix. ## A very cheap way to save expensive waders Good waders are expensive. Aquaseal UV is inexpensive, and the amount needed for a pinhole is almost comically small. Even if the only thing the tube ever repaired was this one pair, it would still be an excellent value. It is also small enough to keep with fishing gear without creating another storage problem. Two weeklong Alaska fishing trips later, the waders still do not leak. It is fast, inexpensive, compact, and capable of saving a costly piece of equipment with very little effort.
